Hush

Sometimes little moments of silence by the candle light are nice.
Just sitting and listening to nothingness sounds easy but it ain't.
Meditation is sometimes a hard thing to master. But silence is so
vast it can hold many ideas. Probably more than any single human mind.
Things are at peace for the moment. The winds are still. All is calm
and quiet.
And so I lite a candle that soon becomes a campfire as the walls of
my home fall away into the distance. Trees and vines shoot up from
the floor, ripping the carpet into grass. My chair takes on an odd
musty smell just before turning to wood and the shaping itself into
an old log.
The light above shimmers into the moon and dims a bit. Partly over
cast by drifting clouds and the air turns cooler.
Sometimes out of the corner of my eye I can see a faint blue shimmer
around the clearing. It sets on the border where the fire casts it's
light, holding back the dark. Never was quite sure where that blue
haze comes from but it is always there, with the boundary of the
light, holding back more than just the darkness. As beyond it ancient
oaks stand as sentinels and cover for all the wild things who took
notice of the light. Animals unlike any ever seen by mortal eyes who
have come to hear of things human.
I sit here in silence and I wait. Friends are coming soon and they
will have stories to tell of these last days and the coming as
goings of the wide world. Some may even have questions to ask about
mystical things.
The fire is set, the boundaries holding, the invite is open. What
shall we talk about tonight?
